Use the Kohl eye liner from Mac, and blend it with a brush, such as the eyeliner brush, or the blending brush. The key is to use a lot of smudging. If you have a dark complexion, you can afford to go as dark as black with your liner, but if you have a lighter complexion, you can use grey or brown and still get a smoky effect, but avoid a harsh look.
